Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely escaped winter in Rocky Mount just yet. Mother Nature has provided us with a few nice days, but she’s always prepared to remind us that she’s in full control. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall could bury your air conditioner in the snow, hindering its performance when the temperatures finally warm up for the season. Not to mention it can hinder a high-efficiency system from operating as such. The situation could become an even greater problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are things you can do as a homeowner to help your air conditioner work as it should even though snow has fallen or could fall in the upcoming days and weeks.

  1. Maintain a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Check the area regularly to make sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that could have built up throughout the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, putting a cover over your air conditioner may end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner can be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, leading to damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Rocky Mount will most likely go up and down over the last few days of winter, you can’t count out the chance of weather that can change the performance of your air conditioner. At Davis Heating & Air Conditioning in Rocky Mount, we are always available to inspect any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re in regards to air conditioner service or adding a new system.
